Florio AND Duca di Salaparuta CELLARS REOPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Guided tours lead the way in rediscovering Sicily

After months of lockdown, Cantine Florio in Marsala (Trapani) and Cantine Duca di Salaparuta in Casteldaccia (Palermo), Sicily, have reopened to the public for guided tours to discover local enological traditions. The stunning settings that hold the secrets of our wines and that serve as a backdrop to the history surrounding them finally become accessible once again, in full respect of Italy’s strict anti Covid-19 regulations and current safety protocols.

This eagerly awaited reopening brings with it a series of new initiatives: in addition to the classic tours of the Cantine complete with tasting, wine lovers will be able to enjoy tours amidst the barrels in direct streaming, with tasting from home. Also, taking inspiration from the slow travel philosophy, the Florio and Duca di Salaparuta Cantine have the honor of promoting enthralling Sicilian history and culture by offering visits at discount prices to some of the island’s splendid and little known locations:
  • the Tufa Quarry Park, near Marsala, an evocative canyon like landscape consisting of rocks of volcanic origin (once upon a time site of an intense mining industry). Now open to exploration, this 42,000 square meter area gives visitors the chance to go on fascinating hikes and discover Mediterranean flora and fauna;
  • the Mozia Salt Flats, a park of great natural/cultural interest in an extraordinary lagoon facing the island of Mothia along the famous salt road on the coast between Trapani and Marsala. It’s a place where history, nature and archaeology meld into one perfect whole;
  • the Villas in Bagheria, iconic mansions capturing the mystery of ever intriguing Sicily. This tour comes in a package deal that includes both a tour of the cantine and a gourmet box of three Duca di Salaparuta wines;
  • major cultural/religious sites in and near Palermo, the island’s capital: from the Palatine Chapel in the magnificent Norman Palace in the very heart of town, to the majestic Cathedral of Monreale on a mount overlooking the city, all the way to the Cathedral of Cefalù along the stunning Sicilian coast. This is a genuine Divine Tour, which also includes a visit to the Duca di Salaparuta cantine and the gourmet box of three wines.
Thus the appeal of a brand of the caliber of Duca di Salaparuta lies in factors which go well beyond the excellence of its products: namely, in its deep sense of tradition and – more and more – in its ability to make this tradition come alive, sharing with others the magical loci of its origins.
